June 13, 2026 - New world screwworm has been found in parts of Texas.
Check your pets and livestock often. If you see unusual wounds or maggots, do not move the animal . Call the Texas Animal Health Commission at (800) 550‑8242 or contact a private veterinarian.
For wildlife with suspicious wounds or maggots, notify park staff or call (512) 389‑4505.
**Burn Ban**
July 10, 2026 - The park is under a burn ban. No wood or charcoal fires are allowed. You may cook with containerized fuel stoves.
**Park Closures**
The park will be closed on the following dates:
5 p.m. on Oct. 19 to 2 p.m. Oct. 22
5 p.m. on Nov. 5 to 2 p.m. Nov. 8
5 p.m. on Nov. 16 to 2 p.m. Nov. 19
5 p.m. on Dec. 3 to 2 p.m. Dec. 6
5 p.m. on Dec. 14 to 2 p.m. Dec. 17
Only permitted hunters will be allowed on these dates.
**Visiting the Park**
Carry water when hiking: Carry plenty of water for you, your family and your pets when hiking. Experts recommend one liter of water per person per hour of activity, no matter the temperature. Many of our trails are rocky and unshaded. Water spigots are available in the campground.
Reservations recommended: We highly recommend making day pass or camping reservations before visiting to guarantee entry. Reserve online or by calling (512) 389-8900.
